What the order requires
Judge Vernon S. Broderick’s Civil Rules § J (revised October 29, 2025) imposes a disclosure-plus-certification regime: AI use must be disclosed in the document, and if AI was used in drafting, counsel must certify they have independently reviewed and verified every AI-drafted portion, including all citations, quotations, and legal authority. The order carves out AI features embedded in Westlaw, LexisNexis, and similar legal search engines.
The chambers also publishes a Model Certification form to standardize compliance. Firms with S.D.N.Y. matters before Judge Broderick should use the model form rather than drafting bespoke certifications.
