Verify Citations Against Primary Sources

Despite that, citations rot, opinions get withdrawn or amended, and orders get vacated. Before relying on any cited authority for any purpose, including client work, court filings, malpractice renewal documentation, or internal policy decisions, retrieve and read the primary source yourself. If a link on this site is broken or an entry is out of date, the primary source controls.

State-Specific Accuracy

Bar rules, ethics opinions, court standing orders, and unauthorized-practice statutes vary meaningfully across states. A rule that is settled law in one state may be unsettled, contrary, or absent in another. Where the Content discusses a specific state, it is limited to that state. Do not generalize across jurisdictions. When in doubt, consult a licensed attorney in your state.
